Knowledge & FAQ
Buyer questions — answered briefly.
Usage per m², durability, minimum quantities and how the types differ.
General
- How much moss do I need per m²?
- Depends on the type: Iceland moss 4–6 kg/m², flat moss ≈ 5 m² per carton, bun moss ≈ 2.5–3 m² per carton. Full figures on each datasheet.
- How long does preserved moss last?
- 5 years guaranteed on all mosses — lifetime when you place order and processing in our hands. Thanks to our exclusive pressure preparation, the moss stays soft even below 30 % humidity.
- What is the minimum order?
- One pallet. Mixed pallets from different mosses are possible; we also supply full truckloads and recurring deliveries at fixed intervals.
Quality & preservation
- How do you recognise high-quality preserved moss?
- —Purity: no twigs, no needles
- —Feel: soft and flexible instead of brittle
- —Colour: dyed all the way through, not just on the surface
- —With competing quotes, ask about pressure preparation and the guarantee period
- What is pressure preparation?
- —An exclusive EUROMOOS process from 25 years of development
- —Preservation and colour are applied under pressure several times
- —The result: permanently soft, natural, maintenance-free moss
- —Certificate on request
- Does preserved moss stay soft in dry indoor air?
- —Conventionally preserved moss can become brittle in dry air
- —With our pressure preparation it stays soft, even below 30 % humidity
- —Ideal for air-conditioned offices, hotels, the heating season and dry climates
- Is premium moss worth it for distributors?
- —40 % more usable iceland moss — you pay for moss, not twigs and needles
- —Ready to process, so less working time per square metre
- —Longevity means satisfied end customers and repeat orders
- —A 5-year guarantee gives certainty for your customer projects
Colour
- Will I get the same shade when I reorder?
- —Every colour has a fixed code — simply order by code, e.g. H1
- —Dyed in our own dye works, which keeps colour quality under our control
- —A natural product: the size of the individual pieces varies naturally
- Does dyed moss fade?
- —Lightfast, UV-resistant, cosmetic dye
- —Premium grades dyed all the way through, without pale spots
- —Backed by the tiered guarantee
Fire protection & projects
- Is moss flammable?
- —Moss is a natural material and, without fire-retardant treatment, flammable — like wood or textiles
- —EUROMOOS supplies fire-retardant versions — which types and which test apply to your project is something we discuss beforehand
- —You receive the certificate and test report via the certificate request
- Can moss walls be used in public buildings?
- —Yes, with the fire-retardant versions
- —Which areas are permitted (e.g. corridors, escape routes) is set by the building code and the fire safety concept for the property
- —We supply the evidence for architects, fire safety planners and tenders
- Does the fire certificate also cover my finished moss wall — and my country?
- —Test evidence always applies to the tested assembly — the combination of moss, backing board and adhesive named in the report
- —Outside the EU, separate test standards may apply, for example in Australia or the USA
- —Before you order, we clarify which evidence is available for your project
Delivery & ordering
- Can you supply large quantities on an ongoing basis?
- —Yes: raw material from our own forests, a large warehouse, pre-production
- —From one pallet to a full truckload, one-off or as a recurring order
- —We state a binding lead time with your quote
- —Preserved plants are partly seasonal, for example eucalyptus from June to April
- What is the minimum order — and why are there no prices online?
- —Minimum order: one pallet, mixed pallets included
- —Quantities, packaging and delivery intervals are put together individually, so there are no flat prices
- —After your request, Andreas Hentsch gets back to you personally within 24 hours
- Do you deliver abroad?
- —Yes, we supply distributors internationally — which countries are possible in each case is clarified before you order
- —Import rules for natural products differ by country. We clarify the necessary documents before you order
- Can I check the quality beforehand?
- —Yes, via the sample request. Samples are charged at regular conditions
- —Put your current moss next to it and compare softness, purity and how deeply it is dyed

- —From our own forests at several locations, selected to premium criteria
- —Gently harvested by hand
- —Naturally preserved, dyed with cosmetic dye
- What guarantee is there on preserved moss?
- —5 years on preserved and dyed mosses
- —Lifetime when EUROMOOS takes on the order and the processing
About the types
- How much Iceland moss per m²?
- 4–6 kg of preserved, dyed flakes per m², depending on the density you want.
- Premium or Sustainable grade?
- Same minimum quantity, different selection. Andreas Hentsch advises which grade fits your project.
- Bun moss or ball moss?
- Bun moss is finer and more textured; ball moss gives firm, uniform cushions. Both combine well in mixed walls.
- How much flat moss per m²?
- Natural: one carton covers ≈ 5 m². Preserved and dyed: one carton covers ≈ 1 m².
- How does mix moss differ from premium moss?
- Mix moss has a slightly more natural, rustic structure with slight irregularities in shape, density and colour.
- Which plants are available?
- Including amaranthus, hydrangeas, lavender, ferns, eucalyptus, salal, ivy, bear grass and buxus — some seasonal only. The full selection is in the 2026 catalogue.
- How are the panels installed?
- Directly onto the facade surface, with a flexible honeycomb grid. Installation advice is free of charge.
- Can I cut the mats to size?
- Yes. The frameless mats can be cut to any size and joined seamlessly.
